Vesper Dark A New Theme Variation 15th August 2008

And another version is born!

Well, Vesper Dark is pretty much exactly the same as the original theme named Vesper. The only real differences are in the header colors. A lot of what I am about to say is copied from the original post but here goes again anyhow.

Just like the original, Vesper Dark is a free widget ready 2 column fixed width template written in valid standards based code for the Wordpress content management system. Vesper Dark supports second level subpage navigation that is very similar to our own here. Basically, if a top level page has child pages it will display them in the sidebar when viewing that page, even if you have widgets enabled.

As well, Vesper Dark has support for a more advanced paging navigation through the use of the wp-pagenavi plugin. The template has the pagination style built into the style.css file and removes the call to the default CSS file that comes with wp-pagenavi by a simple remove action in the functions.php file in the Vesper directory, so everything should work right out of the box.

In addition, Vesper Dark is Wordpress 2.6 compatible and should also work in previous version but has only been tested in 2.3 and above. You can download the latest version of Vesper below and play around with it. If you have any questions, found a bug, or think there is room for improvement to the code please leave a comment.

    This variation of Vesper should be available at the Themes Directory soon, but until then you can download this theme directly form here. The zip file is available above and is the version that is pending approval with the theme people over at Wordpress.

    Enjoy!

    Hi,
    It’s rendering without the stylesheet for me?
    Interested to know how to fix as I would like to make use of the extended navigation feature.

    @Dave

    I’m not sure what the reason for that is. Maybe try updating your version of Wordpress. Other than that I’m at a loss, sorry.

    Hmmm, strange, it’s a new install of 2.6.1…

    Do you have a bunch of plugins activated? You might try deactivating them and checking if it works…

    I’m really not sure what to tell you because this seems to be an isolated issue and I can’t reproduce it, so fixing it is more of a guessing game from my side.

    I love the theme, thanks for sharing this, I also downloaded the Vesper original theme. How can I see the full posts on home page instead of the “Continue Reading link” ?

    Thank you.

    Sorry I have another question, how to align images on the right, or center. What tag to add when editing my posts ? Even when I add align=”right” or class =”alignright”, images don’t align on the right. The do align on the right in the post editor, but not when posts are published (always on the left).

    Thanks again.

    @Tom

    1) If you remove the part in the wp-loop.php where is says excerpt reloaded and replace with the_content() it should solve the problem.

    2) If you take out .post-entry img { styles… } part in the CSS it’s right around line 280 it should work.

    Is Vesper Dark compatible with WP 2.6.2?

    I’m using this theme on my new blog, and have had several compliments on how nice and readable it is. Thanks for the great work.

    My question is: I keep getting an error in my server log for the home page:
    Mismatched tag at line 36, column 8 (and if it was via a referral URL, i get that info, too)

    only happens for the home page.

    I found two minor html problems (the meta author tag isn’t closed, and there’s an extra span tag after the commentslink link), but fixing those didn’t solve the problem.

    I thought I’d drop a question here just in case you have an idea where I might look? I am using some plugins, but they’re the same on the non-error causing pages as the home page, so I’m at a loss as to where to go next.

    Thanks again for the nice theme!

    Thanks Evan.

    @Rich yes it is compatible, not sure if I spoke to you through email or not I have been really busy.

    @Stevi Deter
    I have no clue whats causing your error, sorry.

    If you have asked a question and I didn’t respond right away or not at all I’m sorry I have been doing a lot of work lately and neglected this blog. If you still have questions feel free to ask I will respond, I promise.

    Cheers
